Cents per kilometre calculator

The ATO cents per kilometre rate is 91 cents for 2026-27 (88 cents for 2024-25 and 2025-26), for up to 5,000 km per car per year.

The calculator

The income year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

The most this method allows is 5,000 km per car per year.

Enter your work-related kilometres for the year to see the deduction.

How the method works

Kilometres times the rate for the year.

Multiply the work-related kilometres you drove in the car by the rate for the income year. The income year runs from 1 July to 30 June, so 2026-27 is 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.

The rate covers all car expenses (decline in value, registration, insurance, maintenance, repairs and fuel), so you can't add them on top.

You don't need receipts, but you do need a record showing how you worked out your kilometres, such as a diary or the myDeductions tool in the ATO app.

The method allows a maximum of 5,000 kilometres per car per year. Above 5,000 km a different method is needed, so ask your accountant. This calculator gives no figure above 5,000 km.

Questions

Good to know.

What is the cents per kilometre rate?

91 cents per kilometre for 2026-27, and 88 cents per kilometre for both 2024-25 and 2025-26. Use the rate for the income year you are claiming.

What if I drove more than 5,000 km for work?

The method covers a maximum of 5,000 kilometres per car per year. Above 5,000 km a different method is needed, so ask your accountant. This calculator does not give a figure above 5,000 km.

Can I claim fuel, registration and repairs as well?

No. The rate covers all car expenses (decline in value, registration, insurance, maintenance, repairs and fuel), so you can't add them on top of the rate.

Do I need receipts?

No receipts are needed, but you do need a record showing how you worked out your kilometres. A diary works, or the myDeductions tool in the ATO app.
